In late 2019, LIFT was approached by the newly formed Women Soar Society from the Experimental Aviation Association to be a recipient of a $5,000 grant. This grant was to be used to fund flight scholarships. There was one catch, we had to raise an additional $5,000! A daunting task indeed. But, as of the writing of this, LIFT succeeded in raising those funds! We now have the money to offer some additional scholarships! Earlier this year, we handed out a total of $1,260 in written knowledge test scholarships and today we announced the winners of a $2,000 private pilot scholarship, a $2,000 advanced rating scholarship and a $1,000 specialized flight training scholarship. The Ladies In Flight Training, Inc. non-profit was formed in 2018 by Krista Morisen, a private pilot. She saw a need to support women student pilots specifically and created a private Facebook group to provide a safe and nurturing environment for these women who are just starting on their aviation journey.
Women pilots only represent 7% of the entire pilot population and has only reached this number after staying stagnant at 6% for over 50 years.
As a US 501 (c) 3 registered organization, L.I.F.T. has grown to over 5,000 members in just a few years and is now offering their own scholarships to give back and support their members.
To help us continue to fund the dreams of aspiring women pilots, please consider making a donation.
